Privacy Policy

Template content — have this reviewed against South Africa's POPIA requirements before relying on it.
1. What We Collect
When you contact us via the on-site form, WhatsApp or email, we collect the details you choose to share — typically your name, email address, phone number and message content.
2. Technician Member Accounts
If you create a Certified Lab Technician account, we also hold the details you enter on your profile: your angler name, first name and surname, email address, date of birth, mobile number, home venue, province, a short biography, and a profile photo if you upload one. Your password is stored only as a secure one-way hash — we never hold the password itself and cannot see it.
3. Catch Records
Each catch you log stores what you enter (species, weight, trace, hook size, hook baits, Dr Danger formulae used, notes and a photo if you add one), together with the date and time, your device's approximate GPS coordinates at the moment you log it, and the weather conditions at that location, which we retrieve from the Open-Meteo weather service.
Location sharing is entirely optional. If you decline the browser's location request, the catch logs perfectly well and you simply type the venue name yourself.
Your exact coordinates are never published. They are visible only to you and to Dr Danger Labs administrators. When you choose to share a catch publicly, only the venue name is shown. We also strip embedded location data (EXIF) from every uploaded photo before storing it.
4. Choosing What Is Public
Catches are private by default. A catch appears on the public Field Reports page only if you switch on "Show this catch publicly", and only after a Dr Danger Labs administrator has approved it. You can withdraw a catch at any time by editing it, switching the toggle off, or deleting it — deletion removes the record and its photos permanently.
5. Anglers Under 18
Members under 18 may only join with a parent or guardian's email address and explicit consent, which we record. We email the guardian when the account is created. For junior members, public catches never show a surname (only a first name and surname initial) and never show a specific venue — only the province. A parent or guardian may contact us at any time to review, correct or delete their child's account and all associated records.
6. How We Use It
We use your information only to respond to your enquiry, process an order, operate your member account and catch record, moderate what appears publicly, and provide the support, field-report or technician-programme service you've requested. We do not use it for advertising profiling.
7. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share it with service providers strictly to fulfil an order (for example, a courier for delivery). When a catch is logged with location sharing enabled, the coordinates are sent to the Open-Meteo weather service solely to retrieve conditions; no personal identifying details accompany that request.
8. Storage & Security
Messages sent through this site are transmitted to our email inbox and/or WhatsApp. Member accounts, catch records and photos are stored in our own database on our South African hosting. We take reasonable steps to keep this information secure, including password hashing, protection against cross-site request forgery, and re-processing every uploaded image to remove embedded metadata.
9. Your Rights
Under South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information held by us. Members can edit most details directly in their profile and delete their own catches at any time. To close an account entirely, contact us using the details below.
10. Cookies
This site does not use tracking cookies. Members receive a single session cookie that keeps you logged in; it contains no personal information and is removed when you log out. The site may use your browser's local storage only for basic functionality, not for advertising or analytics profiling.
